Marc Marquez will join Gresini Racing for the 2024 MotoGP season and compete alongside his brother Alex, the team have confirmed.
Six-time champion Marquez was already known to be leaving Honda at the end of the 2023 campaign.
The 30-year-old Spaniard will depart the Japanese team after an 11-year association.
Gresini are a satellite team of Ducati, the currently dominant constructor in MotoGP.
Marquez “will be the new standard bearer of Gresini MotoGP”, the Italy-based team said in a statement.
“I am excited about this new challenge,” Marquez said. “It was not an easy decision because it will be a big change in all aspects.
“Sometimes in life you have to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to continue growing. As for the bike change, I know that I will have to adapt many things in my riding style and it won’t be easy.
“But I am convinced that the whole Gresini team will help me a lot. I can’t wait to meet the team and start working with all of them.”
Marquez became the youngest MotoGP champion of all time in 2013, winning the title in his first year of premier racing.
He then dominated MotoGP from 2016 to 2019, winning the series four years in a row by beating riders such as Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.
Since then he has battled injuries and challenges with his current RC213V bike, finishing just five races to date in the 2023 season.
Marquez will become a team-mate of his 27-year-old brother Alex, who has raced in MotoGP since 2020.
Alex also raced for Honda for his first three years, before moving to Gresini for the 2023 season.
