The incident that happened on August 19, 1961 in the Swedish city of Lusecil (len Vestra-Gotaland).
A private Volvo PV544 car registered in Stockholm was parked outside the telephone exchange building on Fiscaregatan Street. For some unknown reason, the car, which was empty, began to move downhill towards the sea. Having safely passed a large batch of barrels of herring, which had just been unloaded from a ship arriving from Iceland, the car crossed the Sedra Hamngatan Street along the sea and crashed into the bow of the submarine Bävern moored at the pier.(“Beaver”) of the Hayen III project. The front part of the car was crushed as a result of the accident, and the submarine’s railing was dented. None of the people were injured. The submarine continued its service until 1980, after which it was decommissioned and the following year cut up for scrap in Odense. The further fate of the car is unknown.
The incident was reported by the Swedish news agency TT, the information appeared in Swedish newspapers. The editor of the city newspaper Kuriren was at the scene. Hans Johansson, who took the photo.
